Basin Electric Power Cooperative, headquartered in Bismarck, North Dakota, generates and transmits wholesale electric power to 135 member electric cooperatives in nine states: Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. Basin Electric operates 4,437 megawatts of electric generating capacity and maintains 2,250 miles of high-voltage transmission line as of year-end 2011.
