City of Gillette Landscape Incentive Grant Program
The City of Gillette encourages businesses to participate in the new Landscape Incentive Grant Program, which encourages landscaping and beautification of new and remodeled developments. Existing businesses may apply for money to help pay for projects to landscape and beautify areas in front of commercial, industrial and multi-family properties. Download an application here. Dive Fest

Peanut Butter & Diaper Drive
Member United Way of Campbell County hosts its third annual Peanut Butter & Diaper Drive on September 9 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Members of the community can participate by donating peanut butter, diapers and laundry soap; cash donations are converted into gas cards for people in need. CCPL: Getaway Raffle
Member Campbell County Public Library is raffling a night’s stay at a Victorian bed and breakfast in Spearfish, S.D. Pig Roast– New Time and Location!
Member Ryan Sanitation Co. LLC and the City of Gillette Firefighters invite the community to a pig roast on September 11 at 5 p.m. at CAM-PLEX Park. The pigs, purchased through local FFA and 4-H groups, are smoked by member Pokey’s Smokehouse and Barbeque. There’s fun for the entire family with games and door prizes provided by a variety of local merchants.
CCPL: Addiction Film Series
Member Campbell County Public Library hosts a film discussion series titled “Faces of Addiction: A Humanities Perspective” on four consecutive Sundays starting September 12 at 1 p.m. in the Library’s Wyoming Room or Pioneer Rooms, 2101 S. 4-J Rd. The series examine various types of addictions from different perspectives including power, risk, greed, drugs, consumerism and alcohol, and recovery. Following each film, humanities scholars from Gillette College facilitate discussions on how society influences our views and abilities to cope with and respond to addiction. This project is funded by the We the People initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
• September 12: Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (unrated, 2005)—shows how Enron, once the nation's seventh largest corporation, essentially faked its bookkeeping to report profits that never existed.
• September 19: Maxed Out (unrated, 2006)—takes on America's debt crisis and touches on related issues like race, corporate malfeasance, and political subterfuge.
• September 26: Blow (R, 2001)—chronicles the three-decade rise and fall of George Jung, a normal American kid who makes a personal vow against poverty, builds a marijuana empire in the '60s, multiplies his fortune with the Colombian Medellín cocaine cartel, and blows it all with a series of police busts culminating in one final, long-term jail sentence.
• October 3: My Name is Bill W. (unrated, 1989)—based on the true story of Bill W., a once successful stock broker, and his slide to the bottom, through the terrors of the Wall Street crash (which amplified a two-fisted drinking problem) and into the loss of everything he held dear.

Motivational Interviewing Training
A free Motivational Interviewing (MI) training takes place on September 13 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Campbell County Public Health, lower level Conference Room, 2301 S. 4-J Rd. The training is geared toward healthcare professionals, but is also useful for individuals in social services. MI is a counseling approach used with clients to elicit behavior change by helping clients to explore and resolve their ambivalence and motivations to change. Participants learn basic MI techniques and skills, and practice through role playing with classmates. Course taught by Kathy Cordell of the Wyoming Department of Health, Mental Health Division. WBC: Wyoming Oilseed/Biodiesel On-Farm Production Marketing Field Day
The Wyoming Business Council invites producers interested in oilseed production to attend a Wyoming Oilseed/Biodiesel On-Farm Production Marketing Field Day on September 13 from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Boreen Ranch in Otto, Wyo. The field day features demonstrations on oilseed and biodiesel processing, showcase regional successes in camelina research, and discuss oilseed meal as livestock feed, as well as the costs, time and capacity for oilseed crushing. Scott Ullman from the Foundation Center conducts two informative workshops about Foundation Center resources and the funding research process. Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act
The HIRE Act provides hiring incentives to restore some of the jobs lost in the latest economic recession. The goal is to help put Americans back to work as soon as possible. Business owners who hire unemployed workers this year—after February 3 and before January 1, 2011—may qualify for a 6.2-percent payroll tax incentive, in effect exempting them from the employer’s share of social security tax on wages paid to these workers after March 18. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently launched a website to help businesses understand how the new health care law is impacting their business. On www.HealthReformImpacts.com, business owners can access credible studies, timelines, media reports, and information provided by other business owners. In addition, the website provides an opportunity for business owners to share their stories and perspectives on the new law.
