After serving many hungry residents breakfast at their annual pancake feed Tuesday morning, Campbell County firefighters spent the rest of the day chasing fires set by fireworks.
Starting at 10:53 a.m., crews were out at the walk-in area of Union Chapel Road for a grass fire an acre in size, started by fireworks. Multiple fires of varying sizes were started throughout the rest of the day and in to the night, some requiring a response from CCFD, and some extinguished by residents before fire personnel arrived.
Not least of which were several small fires started by the display at the Cam-plex. Numerous fires in Morningside Park and in the fields surrounding the Cam-plex grounds meant fire crews were responding to the area just as hundreds were attempting to leave after the show.
Fireworks are not permitted within city limits, though they are still allowed in the county this year. Here's a list of the total fireworks related incidents responded to last night, and a note from CCFD.
