Their first real test was Mother's Day.
"We had 168 orders and I'm the only designer," said Bloomer's owner, Linnie MacMillen. "We were climbing over each other but we got it done!"
Bloomer's, located downtown at 206 S. Gillette Ave., is one of the newest additions to Gillette's "Main Street." They became Chamber members in May, and had their ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 19th. Next door neighbor Ice Cream Cafe helped with refreshments, and Four Seasons Events staged an outdoor patio setting for visitors.
"Floral design is something that I love," she says. "My design style is a little different, so people have another choice now. There's nothing I won't try to tackle."
Linnie retired from being a florist after over 30 years in the business, and moved to Wyoming with her family. But after seeing the empty store front on Main Street, she decided she'd spend her retirement starting a new small business.
"I was driving around one day and saw this empty storefront downtown with no sign, so I contacted my realtor, Pat Avery, and he helped me let the space," she says. "Building a business is a process. You build a client base by doing quality work again and again, and being dependable. Provide good work with good prices, and the community will come."
Bloomer's creates both live floral arrangements and silk arrangements, sells potted plants, can provide the flowers for your special event, and even creates gift baskets with anything you like in them. For a fee of $10 or under, you can get arrangements delivered in Gillette, and Bloomer's says they will deliver to Rozet, Moorcroft, and Wright as well. Delivery to funeral homes or, in some cases, the hospital, will have a smaller (or no) charge.
Bloomer's is open Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Visit them online at bloomerstheflowershop.com, or give them a call at (307) 670-9292.
